Our Soldier

Well, Tom leaves for basic training tomorrow. He'll be at Fort Benning in Georgia on Wednesday.  We hope he makes it through. He's tough though, so I think he will. Once he sets his mind on something, he really gives it his all. He ran 2 miles in under 12 minutes when he had 16 minutes to complete it for his PT test. After his 16 weeks (or however long it is) of basics, then he'll be in airborn "school", and then after that he'll have Ranger training. He wants to be an Army Airborn Ranger (one of the elite groups in the army). I put a picture of Tom in my photos on this site if you want to check it out.

So, I guess his recruiter is going to come to the house Tuesday around 1:00 to pick him up and take him away.  That's going to be a hard moment for all of us.  I'm sure he'll be fine and will make us proud though!!

Here is a quote from Marva Collins, which I had found while looking through some of my books. I think it says alot:

"I am a teacher.

A teacher is someone who leads.

There is no magic here.

I do not walk on water.

I do not part the sea.

I just love children."

Jan passed away a little after midnight this morning. I'm glad she made it through Christmas, but at the same time, I wish she could've been awake and responsive enough to enjoy the holiday too, since evidently it was her last one. My grandpa gave me an angel that was her's and he told me to put it by my bed on my night table so that I will have an angel watching over me. He said everyone needs as many angels as they can get these days. Jan really liked angels. I'm glad my grandpa gave me that angel because it's one of Jan's angels and not only will I have her angel watching over me, but I feel like now I have a part of her still with me and watching over me too. I hope that she gets to meet my grandma now and that the two of them can watch over my family and my grandfather together now.  We'll miss you, Jan!

ok, so my mom went to the CHS school board meeting tonight while i was working at Sears. She said I was approved to substitute for the district as a "Professional Substitute". Yeah!  Now i will be substituting officially for Nanticoke, Berwick, and Crestwood.  This past week I substituted for 2 days in Berwick....one for 6th/7th grade learning support in the middle school, and one for all-day kindergarten at Salem Elementary.  My mom said good things come to people who wait, and I guess she's right after all!
